On a whole, I think the slack is one "path", so say coming down the stretch, you're on the rail, that's the one path. If you drifted out to the "two path" w/out seriously impeding another horse (ie making it pull up, check heels, etc) you usually get by. Other factors, is the horse you impede/bump running huge or fading? Are they themselves drifting out, and not because you caused them to do so, and if they aren't drifting, did they drift when you lugged in?

In short, it's a f*cking mess. I didn't see the incident in the 5th, I'm gonna see if I can catch the replay.
