I was looking at the drf pull out for this past weekend concerning the upcomming Keenland sale. One of the stats that jumped out at me was Pionering and Slew City, both 5k stud fee, producing winners at over 50% from over 100 starters. We all know that they are not getting the top quality mammas. So in my opinion dosent this indicate a great way of obtaining a good mating for a smaller oreration that is looking for a productive colt.

I think it does, Pops. In my opinion, it is evident that they are breeding more for the sales ring than for racing. It seemed to me that the peds with more blacktype (regardless of sire) were getting the bigger $$ at the sales. I would venture to say that a smaller racing operation could actually break even (at the very least) by breeding to a stallion such as Pioneering and Slew City if they were looking for a productive colt or filly that could actually hit the board a few times in order to "pay for themselves."
