Another one I like is "Money Secrets at the Racetrack" by Barry Meadow. It makes an excellent companion or primer for Crist's Exotic Betting. I would actually read them in that order: Meadow, then Crist.
They are two books that I re-read often. They focus more on the betting side of the skill set rather than the handicapping, but both pieces are essential as I'm sure you know.
Glad to hear you are getting your son into the game. It's a great pastime. College was not all that long ago for me -- I'm not yet 40 -- and I find that once my friends are introduced to the game, they invariably see how superior it is to the other forms of gambling we have available to us on the East Coast.
