I think it may be more of a rural v. urban thing.
Obama won in San Antonio (Bexar County), Dallas, and Houston.
In Austin (Travis County)67% to 32%...

The state went to McCain of course.
And the Houston and Dallas votes did not count the burbs outside the city proper. The San Antonio vote was actually the county vote 54 to 45 Obama.
Carried a lot more of the Hispanic vote than I dreamed possible. Austin does not surprise me. Younger prosperous city. If you look at the California vote by county, McCain won by square footage in California. So the rural vote was McCain.
