Like I said, I didn't see anyone calling it "the dumbest move of the offseason" at the time, because everyone figured the Dolphins would suck and were in rebuilding mode. Now because they're good, the move looks bad. Hindsight is 20/20, but the Jets' hands were tied and I'm fine with what they did.

Considering there were pre-draft rumors that if the Jets drafted Matt Ryan they would have dealt Pennington to Baltimore for a 2nd or 3rd round pick I have to imagine they could have found someone willing to pay $3 million for him in exchange for a 7th rounder. He was released the same day they got Favre so it isn't like they shopped him around at that point when people knew they would dump him for anything.
