The fact is, regardless of the contributions and what Pennington deserved throwing away football games in the NFL is always a terrible idea. They should have at least taken a few days to test the waters and if there were truly no offers for a conditional 7th rounder that Chad found acceptable then do the right thing and let him loose.
He was under contract and got hurt, there is nothing a team can do about that. Look at all the money the knicks lost on Allan Houston. Plus the NBA is stange, because it's worth teams taking bad contracts (within reason) in their last years to free up potential cap space.

As far as Chad goes, Why would you want to trade for a guy and have to pay him the contract that the Jets gave him, when you could just wait for him to hit the market on bid for him on your own terms. The whole leauge knew he was going to be released. And every team had a shot at him. Basically the Jets did right for a guy who played his heart out for the organization. He was always professional on and off the field, and this is coming from a Jet Hater.
