No, pure Socialism will never work. It has a better chance to work in a homogenous group(tribe etc.) We don't have that. What I meant by "things you despise" is the stuff we normally disagree about(Healthcare etc.) Long ago, we made the choice in this country to make the medical profession a glamour job. What that did is destroy the chances for an awful lot of the citizens to be able to pay for all their medical care. We still want to think differently. We keep ignoring it. As a whole, a lot of Americans are simply unrealistic people. Medical Care is going to have to go into the shared risk column(whether we like it or not.) It's not affordable enough to be treated the way we would like to treat it(like food, cars, or T.V.) As it is now, we use highly skilled people(E.R. etc.) to treat diseases at an acute stage (in poor people.) It should be treated earlier. It's much less expensive to treat it earlier.
