Then, why is it that when the last two Republican Presidents got into office the national debt skyrocketed? This isn't a slam against Bush and Reagan as much as it just a question. Is the answer simply Cold War spending(Reagan) and 9/11, Iraq, economy(Bush) ?

at this point, i think it's a falsehood that either party doesn't believe in big govt. too many now look at the party and want to know what it's done for them. then there's the states having shuffled most of their responsibilities onto the feds as well.
i'm sure it's a variety of factors--and of course the more we make as a country, the more they spend. everyone, here and abroad looks at this country as being one big piggy bank for them to dip into.
i forget tho, which candidate is supposed to do less damage to the deficit in the years to come. obama's supposed tax cuts are higher than those of mccain, but i think obama has also asked for more spending-supposedly cap gains and other increases make up the difference.
