At first glance you think this is not true to think these 2 guys are the best guys in a country of 250 million or so people. But then you think of the word available. I mean who in their right mind would subject themselves to this kind of abuse to take a job that seemingly is impossible to do? I'm not going to even try to understand outside of huge ego's and a giant dose of ambition but how many people have lived the needed "perfect life", going to the right church (even though I believe that very few of these politicians go anywhere near a church unless campaigning or with camera's around), being "around" the right people, having the right background, etc...

Not that I am nearly qualified to run but if I were to I'm sure that every post I have ever posted here or elsewhere would be fair game. I am friends or acquantinces who I am sure would not vet out. I was arrested once for DUI (beat the rap, the cop was so cocky he didnt realize he arrested the designated driver (me) and let the drunks drive my car home). One of my friends from high school was arrested for dealing drugs after we graduated. I havent been to church in years. Hell I have been photograped in public with OJ! All of those things would disqualify me from even being considered from being a candidate and I didnt mention one thing political in nature. One of the things that bothers me about the whole process is that the reality TV world that we live in causes people to vote in a certain manner and hence the parties have to run their campaigns the same manner. I dont blame either candidate for doing whatever they need to win including attack ads and tying the opposition to unsavory characters. Because it works in many cases. And that is all that matters in our socity now.

What also bugs me is that so many fall for the bs that these guys pledge. Obama isnt going to 'fix' the economic problems in this country. His 'plan' isnt going to work because there is no plan. He may outline what he wants to do but lets be realistic. The plans ALWAYS change once they get in office and start dealing with reality, not pie in the sky. Mccain's 'plan' isnt any better but he isnt going to win so who cares. Even the local races feature all these promises that you know arent going to be met. The funny thing about Obama is that for a Democratic Presidental candidate he has an huge money advantage over the Republicans. Where do you think most of that money comes from? Special interests of course. His 'change' mantra is just a slogan, not reality. There will be no change because even though the President is the leader, Congressional lifers and the money behind them and the President's war chest still call the shots. Maybe oil companies will suffer and the welfare crowd will thrive but Washington wont work right until term limits for Congress are imposed and people like George Soros and the republican version of him are put under control. The constant barrage of ads needs to be curbed also. We live in the age of information. There are plenty of sources available for candidates to get their message across without the constant questionable information thrown at people all day long.

I watched the debate the other night for about 15 minutes and couldnt help but think that if I knew nothing about either man, Obama came across the more votable guy. McCain is old, he looks old and he is not a great public speaker. He stutters and repeats the same words over and over again. I dont know if he would be a great president but McCain simply cant be the best Republican candidate out there.
