that's my beef with the wild-card, when both teams are making the playoffs
the only difference is home field, and it's really not that huge a difference
as we have seen wild card teams advance and win the world series
I'd like to see the Yanks, Tigers, Twins, and A's prevail,
doesn't matter much in the other circuit, if forced, I'd pick the Dodgers
Hard to agree that a team(Dodgers) without the self motivation to beat their Southern Cal rivals(Padres,)will show the will to take it all. This is a constant embarassment to the city, and yet they continue to show up at the park with half the juice that the Padre players show.I think they have lost 9 of 12 to this team (that struggles against most everybody else.)Tonight they start this dung called Hendricksen, and that almost insures they will have to score 8 runs to win. They have 3 decent pitchers in Penney,Lowe, and Maddux.Billingsley has great stuff, but is unfortunately a headcase severe(which means he has the stuff to win 15-20,but gets in his own way enough to make him only a .500 pitcher.)The last guy is a poor pitcher(Hendricksen.)Sometimes he can get cagey enough to get out of the big trouble that a guy with poor stuff gets into.He is pretty good at picking guys off etc..Unlike most years, they have the pitching to protect leads in the 7th-8th.As you could see by last night, there is one lazy cancer they couldn't unload by the trading deadline(J.D. POOH.)One look at that play he botched last night, will show anybody that he is all about J.D. He is not gunna make the little extra effort plays out there needed to win games. You know,I see this Milton Bradley play right field most every game, and he makes that play 999 out of 1000 times. He is a guy with huge temper control problems, but that guy wants to win as badly as anybody I have ever seen.I don't agree that the trade Ethier/Bradley was a huge theft by one team,or the other. Both are very good ballplayers.I guess that Milton's temper, and injury problems make Ethier the better deal, but I don't honestly think the A's would take Ethier for Bradley right now(next year...when they are having a bad year, and he is beating cars up?? probably they would want Ethier...not now..)The Dodgers problem(as usual)will not be talent. It is motivation.Last night, that was not a team desperately looking to win. That very average team across the diamond wanted it more. They are an amalgam right now.Sunday, and Saturday they looked like the team that won a bunch of games in a row.Last night was that same team that lost a bunch of games in a row. They show up,and pop up/ground out while their own pitcher gets to walking people, and getting a high pitch count.Jekyl n' Hyde team. They are the best in the West(when they SHOW UP.)It is the organization I grew up with, and I would love to see them go to the series.Fact is,this is a very odd team(duh...lose a bunch...win a bunch..and now show up at the ballpark with the motivation of a bunch of goats who ate some pot.)They seem to be totally unmotivated to beat the Padres. This is what I wrote weeks ago,and last night was the best example I could show you.Very odd team.
