Cuvee was the favorite, 8-5, maybe 3-2, I don't remember. Although I tossed him, on paper he was appeared to be one of the strongest favorites; primarily because there were several horses where the connections just decided not to run. Well they don't run the race on paper. I think a lot of the expected contenders didn't run as expected in their final preps. Pletcher had Chapel Royal, but I am not sure if he any others in there, and he was pretty heavy in 2yo's that year. Zito as well.

Cuvee was coming off two impressive wins if I remember correctly, but he screamed sprinter and I don't think anyone was enthusiastic about him stretching out (Asmussen and Bailey). I don't remember who it was, but I think only one horse in the field had a two turn win. Anyway, Cuvee was last, but he got beat about 100 lengths and walked across the wire.
