Not to bore you with too many details but i used to go to Ellis with my dad and mom on days we would get rained out of the tobacco fields during the summer and more often than not one of dad's friends would come along. He was a huge fan of Vodika Collins and i was a huge fan of Mythical Ruler. Dad's friend, Frank was a very astute handicapper and went more on bloodlines and breeding than anything else so he was always telling me "Ruler" was outclassed and it used to make me fume! My revenge was extracted the day that Mythical Ruler won the Govenors Handicap and set a then track record for a mile. Frank, being the gentleman he always was, was gracious and glad to see me so excited. I have thought about those days a thousand times and the memories will go with me to the grave as some of the best of my life. Kids that don't get to grow up doing things like that have no idea what they are missing. Oh and Frank got his revenge on me many times with a horse named Storm Strike which was an early Mike Pegram purchase i believe - he was a win machine!
