Let's face it, based on price alone the expectations are far higher for Smarty (or any high ticket horse) than the Saarlands etc. I don't recall a huge groundswell of horsemen praising the Distorted Humor's when they hit the weanling/yearling/2yo sales, yet he sired a Derby winner and then some in his first crop and is now one of the most expensive stallions in the world.

That's a fair point, but even in his price range there seems to be considerably more buzz attached to the Chapel Royals and the Friends Lakes.
