I'll tell ya all a funny story about EW-boy wonder trainer.
I was a part owner in a excellent 2yo that won his 1st race in open company 7f at SAR in 2002. He breezed a 35 and change in a prerace work. Ran down some very good horses in that race and won impressively. Next out ran 3rd in the Champagne Stakes @ Bel. WinStar made a 75% $700,000 private purchase from us for this colt as he was an early Derby horse and they didn't have one Derby Eligible or ready.
So EW gets his hands on this colt who never has been injured...and you guess it...all types of things start happening which is not so uncommon.
But the best part is as a 3 yo he races the same colt at SAR, horse runs poorly. I go to the barn to visit my colt (which is now a gelding, unbeknownst to the 25% remaining owners) and he makes the comment that the colt hates the track. Now this is the same colt that ran the daylights on the same surface only 11 months prior. I just looked at this guy in amazement..like he never knew this colt won his initial race over the same surface and worked a 35 breeze. I knew then that this guy was clueless. He didn't last much longer as WinStars trainer either shortly after that.
