I don't think he saw that guy coming outside of him. It was a really premature move that the other rider made. It happened just past the half-mile pole. I think it totally caught Gomez by surprise because it was such a sudden, premature move by the other rider and it happened very quickly. It was definitely Gomez' fault. You have to be paying attention and expect the unexpected. You can't let someone come outside of you at that point in the race. It would have forced Gomez to move sooner than he would have liked, but you don't have much choice at that point in the race. Once in a while you will see horses still win after getting passed at that point, but it doesn't happen often.
