when you have the same horses in different positions on a vertical bet like an exacta, trifecta, etc., you calculate the individual bets made by multiplying the distinct runners in each place on the bet.
an easy example was the one i posted earlier about the cost of a 3 horse trifecta box.
assuming a $1 betting unit, the cost of that box is $6 arrived at by multiplying 3 distinct betting interests in the win position times 2 distinct betting interests in the place position and a single distinct betting interest in the show position. 3 x 2 x 1 = 6. if one of your horses finished first, he can't finish 2nd or 3rd so you only have 2 distinct interest in the place position. and so on.
your $600 super 5 was 600 $1 bets. the calculator you're using is figuring this out by multiplying the distinct starters you have in each "leg" of that bet. you know that 4 x 6 is 24. and 24 x 8 is 192. and 192 x 8 is 1536. so why isn't your ticket $1536? (1 x 4 x 6 x 8 x 8)
because you don't have 6 distinct starters in the place position. or 8 distinct starters in 4th. or 8 distinct starters in 5th.
you had 1 horse in the win, 4 in the place, 5 in show (because you used the same 4 horses you had in the place position here and one of them would be subtracted since they can't finish both 2nd and 3rd), 6 in 4th place, and 5 in 5th place for the same reason.
4 x 5 = 20. 20 x 6= 120. 120 x 5 = 600. 1 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 5.
just keep using the calculator. it works for you. the only reason i even brought up the calculation was because i made a mistake going over your ticket originally.
