Yep, thats my play next year. Hard enough capping the Derby on teh day of, no sense in even looking at it three months out. Of the original 23 horses offered in the first pool, more than half didnt make the Derby, and I think that is a high statistic from past years.
2006 - Total Offered in Pool 1 (23) - Made Derby (11) - 47.8 %
2005 - (23) - (11) - 47.8 %
2004 - (23) - (9) - 39.1 %
2003 - (23) - (7) - 30.4 %
2002 - (23) - (5) - 21.7 %
2001 - (23) - (8) - 34.7 %
2000 - (23) - (10) - 43.4 %
Total - (161) - (61) - 37.8 %
So, your horse from Pool 1 has just more than a 1/3 chance of actually running in the Derby. And with that, I'm done betting Derby Futures
