No but a great majority never get to their peak because they simply dont try as hard as others. There are many reasons why they may not try including poor management and/or soundness/breathing issues. But no horse wins stakes races without a great deal of effort on their part, usually more than horses of equal or even greater ability. The difference between a maiden 10 and Curlin is far more narrow than the difference between you and MJ. (I'm assuming that you arent LeBron or Kobe)
