yes you are right, however it barely makes any difference. if i take your 12.8 seconds/furlong rate that changes the final speed to 51.5 ft/sec which means that the reduced distance of 38.322 feet saves .743 seconds compared to the 1 1/4 mile distance.

please forgive me for underestimating the time savings by .05 seconds.
