That's a good point, everyone puts a lot of emphasis on the stallion, but mares really do have more to do w/the outcome than the stallion does. A good mare will do well regardless of who she goes to. I do think that distance ability comes from the mare, but if you're considering soundness, I believe it's a 50/50 deal. I still don't think I'd take my chances on breeding to a crooked horse.
