Default NYRA unaffected, VLT op slowed by Spitzer departure

Spitzer resignation has 2 trade journal interpretations online in the last hour... One is from Karen Johnson of Blood-Horse and addresses NYRA specifically, and the other is from Paul Post for Thoroughbred Times and focuses on the selection of the VLT operator for AQU.

With the March 12 announcement of the resignation of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer effective March 17, officials at the New York Racing Association said they don’t anticipate his resignation would affect recent legislation that grants NYRA a new franchise.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned on Wednesday, and now New York’s horsemen and breeders are faced with the possibility of losing millions of dollars. The state’s Thoroughbred industry could encounter procedural slowdowns stemming from Spitzer’s alleged involvement in a prostitution scandal.
