American recruit pleases in carnival gallop
Doug Watson reports new recruit Gun Salute in fine shape and was pleased with his new charge who worked over five furlongs on the Nad Al Sheba dirt track this morning.
Winner of the Group 1 Secretariat Stakes in 2005, the six-year-old entire son of Military arrived in Dubai on 13th January having been kept fit at the Keeneland Training Centre prior to his departure. Having arrived in good shape, this morning’s five-furlong gallop under Mick Kinane, was his second serious piece of work since his arrival and Watson was delighted:
“He has covered that in exactly a minute and we are very pleased. Mick (Kinane) certainly likes the horse and he is an exciting addition to our Carnival team. The Group 1 Dubai Duty Free over 1777m on turf is his target but obviously he won't run in the Al Rashidiya this week. However, there is a handicap over the same course and distance next Friday and we are targeting that.”
The horse, who will remain based in the quarantine centre and return to the States after World Cup night, will work on the turf next Monday prior to his UAE debut.
