27 January 2008

The Licensing Committee, by circulation of paper, has agreed to grant a club jockey's licence to Emma-Jayne Wilson for the period 1 February 2008 until 2 April 2008, both dates inclusive.

Ms Wilson, aged 26, had her first race ride on 27 August 2004 and rode her first winner the following day. During the 2005 Woodbine racing season, she rode 180 race winners from 1132 race rides resulting in a noteworthy winning percentage of 15.9%. During that season, she won the Bell Canadian Stakes (Grade 2) on CLASSIC STAMP and the Ontario Lassie Stakes (Grade 2) on OUR MADISON. At the conclusion of the 2005 racing season, Ms Wilson won the Sovereign Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey, an award she again won the following year. Also in 2005 she became only the second female jockey to be voted the United States Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey. After achieving 146 race wins during the 2006 Woodbine season, Jockey Wilson rode 154 winners during the 2007 season. On 24 June 2007, she became the first female jockey to win Canada's time honoured Queen’s Plate (Grade 1) riding MIKE FOX to victory at Woodbine race track. She has ridden 480 winners from 3380 race rides resulting in an overall winning percentage of 14.2%

After becoming one of only 2 female jockeys to participate in the prestigious Shergar Cup Jockey Series at Ascot racecourse in 2006, Ms Wilson accepted an invitation to compete in the 2007 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Jockeys’ Championship conducted at Happy Valley Racecourse on 5 December 2007.

Ms Wilson has advised her minimum riding weight as 113 lbs. She is eligible to accept race riding engagements at the Sha Tin race meeting scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, 2 February 2008.
