I absolutely love the return of National Hunt racing and weve had some cracking races so far (yesterday being the prime example!) but its always hard when these casualties occur. I always forget the depths of despair you can get to until it happens..

I got very lucky through his career. I remember my parents coming to visit me at uni for the last minute on the day he made his hurdles debut at Warwick (which was a few miles from uni) and i had planned on going and spending my student loan on him. Luckily, not only did i fail to make the track, but i also lost track of time and never made it to the bookies in time. Money well saved.
However, i backed him in all of his starts after then that year, which huge rewards. I had a large bet at 9/2 on track at the Triumph and i had backed him ante post.
I remember the triumph day well, bitterly cold (were you there?) and it began to snow as the runners left the paddock. From the moment they were off i was screaming the horse home. He was one of the first off the bridle. I screamed myself silly and when trying to speak after the race, i couldn't.
The only horse i have lost my voice over.
