A horse that is a cribber sucks in air by biting on the top part of wood and pulling it's chin inward. They seem to get a "high" somehow and once they start can't stop. It can also be a "learned" thing by the other horses watching. There are collars that you can buy to put around there necks wich prevent them from being able to suck in air, but once it's left off they go right back to cribbing. We have one at the barn that is so obsessed with doing it that he will even crib on the cross ties while being saddled. Very annoying to say the least and I feel it can depriciate their value.
