There is no such a thing as a cheap covering fee these days. Having said that Van Nistelrooy was very fair last year in my opinion.
However, i think $50k for Hard Spun looks very inviting. I would still prefer to send a mare to him than Street Sense if they were both the same fee.
Hard Spun has just kept improving all year and if we could have seen him next year i think he would have got even better.
The horse has the speed to win over sprint trips and yet finished second in the Classic when the other speed horses finished in a different zip code on Saturday, That effort deserved plenty of respect, even though he won't ever get it.
I quite think his fee will go up after his first crop hit the track, whereas Street Sense will probably fall.
Being by Danzig, i expect the european breeders might be fairly interested, too.
Hard Spun also showed he could do it both on dirt and on Poly, which could also factor into his first book, with so many good racies to be run on synthetic surfaces in the coming years.
