Moon rises over star rivals

October 06, 2007 COREY Brown picked up a lucky winning ride on Devil Moon in the Group I Turnbull Stakes at Flemington, after Hugh Bowman succumbed to a bout of food poisoning and had to forfeit the mount.
The emerging mare left trainer Mark Kavanagh with a pleasant dilemma when she upstaged some of the best gallopers in Australia to win the $500,000 feature from outsider Scenic Shot and Haradasun.
"I think he's sicker now than what he was,"

Brown said of Bowman after the race.
"She's very very tough and she showed that today.
"She dug deep."
Kavanagh was excited about the performance from the mare, but he was undecided which way to go with her for the rest of the spring.
"Wow, what a win," Kavanagh said.
"I don't know what to do with her now."
The Flemington-based Adelaide trainer said he would let the dust settle before deciding whether Devil Moon went for the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 20 or the $3 million W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley a week later.
