28 year old Lucy Burch suffered fatal injuries Wednesday night in an MVA on Route 10 in Shrieveport La.
A winner of 21 races in 388 mounts since 2001 and earnings just shy of a a quarter million dollars.
She got her start in racing at Pleasanton Racetrack at the age of 21, working as an exercise rider citing Russel Baze as an early mentor.
Her first professional race was ridden in Boise Idaho after a short stint at an unrecognized venue called Red Bluff Downs.
Injuries stalled her career for 3 years until returning to ride at Remmington Park, Evangeline and Lone Star.
She is survived by her parents, 2 siblings and grandmother to whom she was closest visiting often in Louisiana.
In addition to riding she had small roles in the successful racing movies "Seabiscuit" and "Ruffian"
