Wheels firmly in motion as Ask warms up for King George bid
by Tony Elves
ASK was on the easy list for a short time after his two-length defeat of Scorpion in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester in May, but the wheels are firmly in motion to get the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt to Ascot on Saturday for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
With that engagement in mind, it was time for some graft on the Limekilns round gallop on Friday morning, and the Sadler's Wells colt looked in good shape under Kevin Bradshaw as he took a couple of lengths out of his lead horse in pleasing style.
The Ascot jewel might not possess the strength in depth this time around, and Ask has already shown he is capable of a high level of form when fresh.
After the heavy rain on Friday, the Al Bahathri Polytrack was the chosen venue for the Stoute team, and Jeremy (Ryan Moore) looked in good shape as he prepared for the Sussex Stakes when going clear of his companion.
Tawaassol (Bradshaw) moved nicely in his spin with Kasseema and Al Tharib, and Arabian Gulf enjoyed some easy work with Regal Flush and Gulf Express.
After a changeover, Hard Top (Maxine Cowdrey) led Distinction (Moore), who is building up to a run in the Goodwood Cup.
John Gosden has the Gordon Stakes in mind for Raincoat and he looked in good nick on the across-the-flat gallop on Racecourse Side when striding on from his workmate.
Stronghold has been a stalwart for Gosden and took further steps towards his return when working nicely with his workmate.
Jeremy Noseda was on the Al Bahathri with Falmouth Stakes heroine Simply Perfect and she looked in shape ahead of her next engagement in the Prix d'Astarte at Deauville on Sunday when working well with her companion.
Shevchenko, Arabian Gleam (Seb Sanders) and Secret World were a trio to note when going through their paces in good style.
Henry Cecil also used the Polytrack when Tranquil Tiger showed he is making further progress when moving comfortably in his spinwith one other.
Walking Talking is another making the right noises and he moved well in company with Templestern.
After a changeover, Winter Bloom (Tom Queally) worked better than I'm Sensational (Ted Durcan) in their gallop.
One To Note
Ask (Sir Michael Stoute)
His gallops work suggests he could make up for lost time in Saturday's King George
