King's Drama dies after surgery
King's Drama, a stakes winner in California, France, and New York, died in the spring from complications of an injury suffered after a surgery, trainer Bobby Frankel said.
King's Drama, 7, raced for Gary Tanaka and won 10 of 31 starts and $1,157,916. He underwent surgery to repair a ligament near a knee when he suffered an injury "while getting up from surgery," Frankel said.
King's Drama won the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Handicap at Saratoga in 2005 and the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Handicap at Santa Anita in 2006. In his final start, he finished 11th in the Grade 2 Mervin Muniz Jr. Handicap at Fair Grounds in March.
In Europe, King's Drama won the Group 3 Prix de la Jonchere in France in 2003.
