Default P6 Question - "Separator" Horse

Thanks to all for the P6 symposium.

Sorry to double post this but I was so caught up in reviewing the original post that I added my post before I realized I was adding it to the archive.

Here are a couple of P6 questions.

I have heard on ATRAB people describe a horse as a "separator", by which I think they mean a B- or C-type horse that many players will not have. Is this correct? Is the idea to survive that leg by having a horse that many others do not, or is the idea to pick a horse at higher odds to get a better payout?

Also, I often hear people say that in some races you either have to single or have to spread. I think I recently heard someone say something like - "If you don't single this race, you have to go 6 deep."

Is the decision to single or spread in a given race a handicapping decision, or is it a ticket structure decision? In other words, do I single by revising all but one of my As and all my Bs into Cs? And is spreading the same as including all As and Bs? Or do I look at my budget and say I can only afford to play if I single at least one race, and pick the best race to single?

Thanks.
