If you project the Yakees in three years they will probably have 2 starting players on the current roster left, Cano and Jeter. At that point Jeter may start to slow down in the field enough where he will have to move to a corner (3rd/1st) where his skills are much less valuable than at SS. Cano is still very young and should improve his plate disipline and fielding but who knows? It looks like Arod may not be back, Giambi is pretty close to being finished, Posada may be around but will more likely be a part time catcher with a huge contract, Matsui will be gone, Damon should be gone, Abreu will be gone, Mussina, Pettitte, Mariano, ect. Sure they have some nice players in the minors and Hughes looks like a star but replacing all these guys over a short period of time and not being a .500 team will be impossible. The new GM (yes they will have one by then) may not have to deal with George but he will have his work cut out for him.
For anybody old enough to remember...deja vu from 1964 and 1965. The Yanks coming off like 14 out of 16 years in the world series fell apart quickly right after the Dodgers and Koufax/Drysdale swept them in '63. Mantle, Maris, Ford, Kubek, Richardson, Berra and others all got old and injured together and took years to recover. Not a pretty sight...unless your a Sox fan!
