Nothing. I just do the usual research. I enjoy following the major sales yearlings as the mature. I can't follow all 2y olds so I've chosen to take the $200K plus sales yearlings from last Fall, and some selected mares foals. I'm retired, so I have the extra time to do this. Many on here ridicule my efforts, but I enjoy it. As for the pedigree angle, I think it is a major factor in 2y old races, along with a few trainers who are good with them. It's not so much in their MSW races, but as those who try to stretch out, pedigree becomes more effective. I like to se speed on the sire side and stamina on the dam side. Salute the Sarge has speed on both sides, so I figure he could be limited to a mile max. But, they can all fool you. Take the case of a friend of mine who just bought interest in Goleta Summit. This horse originally sold for $450K, had a great pedigree, looked good, etc. It's done nothing much. My friend bought it in a $15K claiming race. Its all just a gamble, but it's fun to me.
