Andy is a great handicapper who has a great opinion much of the time.
He was right to take the position he did, and bet against a horse he picked in the KY Derby.
He just wasn't able to produce the right horse to beat him with--or the right betting startegy on this occasion.
Take nothing away from Curlin and SS--but the track was supersonic fast--he ran five lengths better than Flashy Bull did the race before....and, if you believe that 9.5 furlong races at Pimlico come back faster than 9f races--as more than one respected figure makers do---Curlin and SS were only two or three lengths faster than Flashy Bull.
It was obviously not an otherwordly performance for the ages....the fact that C. P. West was 4th, beaten about 4 or so lengths off memory...that underlines that point. C. P. West has never run a figure faster than 92 in his life, and he's elidigle for N1X allowance races...not having won a race since his August debut at 6 furlongs.
