That's exactly what I saw. Going into the BC Juvenile, I wrote that I was concerned about his ability to finish as in both of his races at 8f or further, he had showd ground lost in the final eighth. In the Arlington race, he was second by a head at the 8th pole and ended up 3rd, beaten 1 3/4 lengths at the wire. The DRF comment says "no winning bid". In the Keeneland race, he had surged to the lead and led by a length at the 8th pole only to flatten out and finish 3rd, beaten 1 3/4 lengths. The DRF comment for that race says "weakened". I didn't expect that explosive late kick in the BC and didn't expect it in the Derby either.
