HK quartet cleared to contest the Yasuda Kinen
11 May 2007
Four of Hong Kong's best horses have been cleared to travel to Tokyo for the Yasuda Kinen.
The Duke, Able One, Good Ba Ba and Joyful Winner will now comprise the strongest ever raiding party of Hong Kong horses for an overseas race on June 3.
"Everyone at the Club is delighted and also very grateful this conclusion has been reached because one of Japan's most prestigious races is once again open to some of Hong Kong's best milers," said Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Club's Chief Executive Officer.
"I would to like take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan for agreeing to the revised quarantine conditions. Hong Kong's Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department also deserve our thanks, as does the Japan Racing Association for liaising between parties."
The Yasuda Kinen, the fourth leg of the Asian Mile Challenge (AMC), will be simulcast to Hong Kong race fans.
Able One, winner of the Champions Mile on April 29, bids for a US$1 million bonus for adding a second AMC leg.
Hong Kong horses have a proud history in one of Japan's most prestigious races. Fairy King Prawn won in 2000 and Bullish Luck followed up last year to collect the same US$1 million bonus that Able One will try to emulate.
