He bet on baseball managing a team...he deserves every second of his ban whether he threw games or not. That is just my opinion. Gambling addiction is very serious, and I just believe he most likely got into all sorts of trouble owing money and he probably threw or tried to throw a game at some point.
This is punishing a guy for WHAT he did, it has nothing to do with his personality...the evidence was overwhelming so they banned him...only several years later when he realized he would be kept out of the Hall did he change his tune of never betting on baseball to actually admitting yes he did. He thinks this latest piece of info will just enhance his status. He has no status. He should never get within sniffing distance of the Hall.
Again just my opinion but I feel gambling is much more serious than even steroid use.

I agree that gambling...especially when it becomes impulsive to that degree is as serious as any addiction. I guess our disagreement centers around whether merely wagering on the game mandates lifetime...make that forever exclusion. I don't think it should. Shoeless Joe was excluded for allegedly fixing games, Rose for merely wagering on them...I think that's a big difference. I respect your opinion but I just disagree...if they PROVE he fixed games then that's different.
