He probably needed to get out of the barn and there are not too many stakes suited to him this time of the year. They've stated the Gulfstream race (with a back-up in Dubai should Invasor not make it) for months now. I think Shadwell is pretty keen to know this is a horse who is going to need things to go just right for him (in both pace & distance) to be standing in the winner's circle again.

I don't think it should be a big concern. Keep in mind they were preparing him for the Donn as a backup to Invasor so maybe they just decided he was too keyed up and they needed to get him a race now.
