I haven't really given it a lot of thought but the rail was certainly not " dead " or the Pletcher horse you mentioned in the fourth, or the Jerkens maiden in the 6th, would not have lasted as well as they did. Perhaps the rail was not the best part of the track, or perhaps the best horses weren't horses on the rail for the most part, but my initial thoughts were that it was an even track.
If you honestly think the rail was off I would make a list of the horses that were actually on it and see how they do next time. I would also see how much their performances Sunday deviated from how they should have done ( roughly ).
