Not sure what the answers are to the queries in your poem, but I know that after the multiple breakdowns at Santa Anita of not too long ago, that track acquired some medical scanners for use on their horse population. They don't seem to be having nearly as many breakdowns. Don't know whether that has anything to do with the scanners or not, but if it does, it would be great if other tracks would acquire these machines.
