Curious thing about the purses in today's KY Downs races. The Turf Cup was advertised as a $1 million race. however, when you look at the chart, it appears that the total paid out was only $694,180. I had expected that Red Knight's winner's share would be around $600,000, but it was only $317,130. That's a winner's share from a $550,000 race, not a $1 million race. From the race chart:
 Value of Race: $694,180 1st $317,130, 2nd $186,000, 3rd $51,150, 4th $46,500, 5th $27,900, 6th $10,000, 7th $10,000, 8th through 12th $10,000 each. Some of that represents payments to KY TD Development Fund eligible horses.

I think that the rest of the purse would have been paid out only if all runners had been eligible for payments from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund. As a NY bred, RK wasn't eligible.

So much for a so called $1 million race.
