I'm so glad that I didn't talk myself into playing the pick 6 on Saturday. In a post, I said that it might be chalky, but I didn't dream how much. The sequence included 3 winners who were odds on winners, two more post time favorites and one who was the ML favorite and a very close second choice in the wagering.
Picking 6 of 6 grade 1 winners for $1 earned you $113. Several of the races did not appear as formful on paper as they ended up on the track. I thought that the Forego had 4 legitimate contenders and the Sword Dancer about the same. If I had been putting a pick 6 ticket together, I probably would have gone 1x4x2x2x4x2 and felt very confident of success. Perhaps I might have been a little more aggressive with a single of Letruska and/or Essential Quality, but that may be more in hindsight. That ticket would have cost $128 for $1. Of course, there would have been enough consolation 5 out of 6 at $4.05 each to probably put the bet into positive territory and keep RQ from ever talking to me again, but all in all that is not the type of payoff one would expect from "nailing" the pick 6.
As it was, I think that I hit the Grand Slam 48 times and still lost a few dollars in the bargain.
It's a great game.
