35 years ago, the late Jim McKay had a wonderful vision of a day devoted to showcasing Maryland bred horses. Maryland Million day was the result of that vision and has lasted through the years. It has become the high point of the season for many smaller Maryland based breeders, owners and trainers. I read somewhere that there are 245 pre-entries for the 12 or so races on the card.
The overall quality of the competition probably won't be quite as good as a stakes laden card at Belmont for NY breds, but it still offers an opportunity to visit a track that we seldom see.
