When galloping out on track before the race, Ryan Moore reported that it felt like the ground was coming out from underneath him, in that Mendelssohn just wanted to buck on that surface. No surprise that two years in a row, horses who just cannot get that type of muddy experience, even in the mornings, are completely baffled when they hit a drenched dirt track for the first time.
