I am always skeptical of the Russians too. But this is a little different since the releases would be the actual emails themselves. They would be able to be validated. Format would be perfect. Date and time stamps and checksums would have to line up.

Also, it is unlikely that the set of 20,000+ emails the Russians have exactly matches the list of those that are missing. In other words, if the Russians have an email sent from Hillary to John Smith of the State Department at exactly 3:48:10 in the afternoon on February 5th, Mr. Smith or a server on any of the networks might also have a copy that will match EXACTLY. Get a few of those, and the pedigree of the emails starts to look good enough to support getting a grand jury.
