Saratoga Friday July 24th
Not fond of these SCRs...some top plays out...
Race 1:
#3 Beyond Empire: Wasn't fond off of the Dubai debacles but ran more than well enough. Two Spa runs last year were his best.
#4 Moneyinyour Pocket: Competitive in this class for prior outfit. Wasn't ready for his first few starts for the barn.
#8 Fox Rules: Still wins 33% of the time and his only run over a dry track here saw him finish third, a half length behind Zivo.
#2 Groupthink: Not on top but always thereabouts.
#1 was beaten thrice as the favourite in this class so I can only use him underneath. #5 is another one that can be there for the exotics.
Race 2:
#10 Freudpsalm: Entered twice as an AE which shows she's been raring to go for a while now. Pompay brings them ready and this isn't the toughest MSW they'll run this year.
#6 Here Comes Rosie: Gate moves show quick early speed.
#2 Flatware: Bred to win young, but Hennig hasn't won with a FTS at the Spa in the past 5...
#3 Night Madam: Another that looks the part but has to overcome poor trainer history in these spots.
Race 3:
#14 Sugar Mags is SCR...very disappointed she didn't get in.
#10 Flying K C: Regressed second off the shelf when dropping back to 6f. Will get a great run given her running style in prior routes. Rudy only 5% in these spots but it's hard to like much else.
#4 Little Mary Ellen
#15 Saratiago is SCR...
#9 Saratoga by Design: Goodwin 0/15 with only 1 ITM first time Lasix, but she could scamper away loose early.
Mott is 1/30 with 2 ITM first time Lasix in turf maidens at SAR (#7). Streicher 14 0-1-0 record at the Spa since 2010 (#12).
Race 4:
#8 Banree: Impressive winner against the boys and was thought of as a Royal Ascot runner (see turf work). Burned my money with a poor start against the boys again. Very dangerous with a clean break.
#7 Positively Royal: Won in hand. Much the one to beat but could be well overbet.
#6 Moment Is Right: Battled gamely but don't think she beat much last out.
#5 One Minute
Race 5:
#4 Reversiontothemean: Given a strange ride by Silvera on the turf (no surprise) but it was a great first up run. Metivier is 3 for 7 back in two weeks in turf routes at SAR.
#6 Annie Walker: Has a chance to steal it on the front end.
#11 Queenofzeenile: Finished ahead of a few of these in a close finish last out. Consistently in the top four.
#13 Takeoff Your Hat
Not big on #7 but will add her in.
Race 6:
#2 Just Wicked: Nothing wrong with turf debut and looks better suited to the dirt. Four maintenance works since.
#5 Welcoming: Three bullets for a barn that can win with them early.
#6 Anna House: Pletcher 600k yearling but has nothing in immediate pedigree to suggest she should win as a 2yo. Have to include but can't empty the pockets on this one.
#4 Silky Girl
Race 7:
#1 The Tea Cups: Should relish the extra ground, won her only start over this course, and has a trainer who's done quite well this year. Saez in a turf route at a price.
#4 Lahinch Classic: Something had to have been amiss last time. Overseas form blows these away but she hasn't shown it here yet.
#12 Trophee: Treve's sister won for fun (finally) but didn't beat much. Clement only 2 for 39 trying to repeat in turf races at this distance or longer.
#3 Chrysolite: Like her at a price but question her ability at 9.5f.
#10 looks the part on paper but Stewart hasn't hit the board in his last 14 turf tries here.
Race 8:
#1 Tairneach: Not confident in any in this so I'm taking a shot with this Ness runner. 3yo form wasn't bad and his only poor dirt sprint this year came over that questionable Gulfstream surface. 2 for 2 at 6f and the price will be right.
#8 Pulling G's: With a clean break he'll be tough to beat, if ready...
#6 Doc Almon: Hard to knock his form, just not sure if he's good enough.
#7 Life in Shambles
#4 has the pace advantage with the SCR of #2. Will include.
Race 9:
#2 My Year Is a Day is SCR...
#12 Partisan Politics: Not sure I believe the "hype" with this one for this race as I thought she still should have won last out, even if it was off the layoff. Not so hindered anymore with post 9 and Chad is 10 for 17 in these spots and even though I don't really want this underlay, I can't argue with that.
#7 Mississippi Delta: Casse runners haven't always run to their ability at SAR but this one has been winning quite impressively.
#5 All in Fun
With the SCRs have room to add #9 Mrs McDougal based on her 7 length romp vs Chrysolite.
Race 10:
#4 Big Blue Talent: Back in seven days at Parx and ignore the turf try before that. Last year's form more than good enough to win this.
#1 Igotthediscoinme: Two starts in this class, two seconds by a neck after leading at the 7f marker. Perfect trip looms.
#8 Four Directions
#14 Kowboy Boots: Have to wonder how wide a trip he'll get.
#15 is hard to get a solid grip of and isn't one that I want to get burned with in the P4.
