Grobe doesn't excite me. i'd love Johnson he'd do a great job and has 2 NC already. Kraigthrope, i don't know enough about and Stoops would scare me because the ncaa is snooping around oklahoma now for the off field stuff that cost him his qb at the start of the season.

DDtide,
I don't get it. With the success of Carroll, and with Weis grabbing every top recruit in the country, as well as the success that Butch davis had at Miami, etc. I think that its obvious that pro guys have a big edge in college.
You sit down in a kids living room and they all wanna play in the NFL. They see Weis rings, or talk a guy who like carroll who tells him he has all the pro contacts, and they wanna come and chase the dream thinking the Coach has an edge to get them there.
WHy chase all these college coaches like RR, etc. when there are some good asst coaches in the NFL who are damn smart and would love the opportunity?
Thats my point. Guys like RR aren't stupid, they realize they only have one more big move left in them, and they are gonna save it for their dream job.
I truly believe that Bowden and Paterno are just about done, and guys like RR and Rutgers guy are gonna lay in waiting for those jobs. Its just so much easier to recruit at schools like that than it is at Bama.
Saban probably would have come back to college, but his recent wins had him reasess. Its gotta be frustrating to come to a team expecting Ricky Williams and losing him, then signing Culpepper and having him be a total bust. But hes got the cash, and figures college jobs will always be there.
Pro coaches have a real grind(and assts) the camps start in July, and the season stretches until at LEAST early January.
College coaching is a bit easier timewise, and many find working with kids again after workiing with spoiled millionaires who don't listen, to be very rewarding.
