'bama was absent from post season for several years due to ncaa violations. they were ineligible for post season, and weren't allowed to be in the rankings from what i remember. that's quite a blow on recruitment efforts.
i think they pulled the trigger too quickly on shula. i think he did pretty well with the program considering the uphill battle he had to fight. now they have a program that hasn't done well, since it shot itself in the foot....and they have to try to convince a coach to take a shot. hell, if miami is having trouble finding someone willing to take a chance, just imagine trying to sell alabama. both schools want results, YESTERDAY. a lot of alums to try to keep happy, and keep their money.
