Ignoring the fact for every private prison there are nine public ones.

Came across this gem of a story this morning about the embezzlement of $840,000 from HUD in their Indian Housing unit. Considering the offender had previous convictions of Armed Robbery and Felony Receiving Stolen property you'd think a guilty plea would be out of question since it would be taking a third strike but nooooo! He took the third strike and as a result faces 33-41 months in prison. (Actually 26-33 months considering he'll do 80%) or one month for every $25.4K-$32.3K he stole.

The idea that our prisons are overcrowded with non-violent drug users is a myth as is any notion of being tough on crime. Wonder if this guy goes straight 2-3 years from now?
