How can you find the name of HIP XX?

My wife and I attended the OBS 2 year old sales in Ocala. We got some great pictures of beautiful runners. Does anyone know how I can find out when one of the hips have been named?

I loved Hip 20 and would like to track her progress. My wife loved 196 and 197. How do I find out when they are named?

while I don't know the answer to this, I am guessing the best way is to remember the horses's mom name and put it into Pedigree Query and hope it gets updated. Not sure when it gets updated.

I would keep checking the progeny of the dam of the horses you're looking at on pedigreequery.com and for example (hip 20):

I find this site to be more reliable than pedigreequery, which anyone can make additions to:

Go to the daily racing form website.

And go to the option where you can purchase a horse's lifetime Past Performances.

You will get a horse search function---it will ask you for either a horses name or the dam's name. If you put in the dam name, you will get the name of any of her foals that have been named and have had at least one workout at a racetrack or training center.

You don't have to buy anything.

another way is if you are a subscriber to the TDN (or if you are a Bloodhorse subscriber you can get the TDN for free)...on their website they have sales PP's indexed by sire and sale...every horse that is sold turns up there and they update with the names as soon as the horse has one.:)

I usually go the the website of the sales comapny in this case OBS and look under sales results. I know at least Fasig Tipton will have this on their website. As side from this I know the Bloodhorse usually prints the sales results in the back of their magazine.

They won't list the name of the colt or filly unless it is actually named, though... right? The particular hip #'s he was interested in were not named yet.

That's correct. I misunderstood what you were looking for. Sorry.

I've definitely found this one to be best. I think the names show up there as soon as they are registered. There are yearlings in there that already have names. It is also great for finding what stallions various mares went to in the past year or two that might not be up on pedigree query yet if the horse isn't named.
